42. COSMOBIOLOGY (Ebertin school)

I. View from Within the Tradition

Method's Worldview The cosmos and the biological being of a person form a single system. Planetary configurations genuinely influence health, the psyche, and life events. The method strives for precision, abandoning houses and signs in favor of exact aspects and mathematically calculated "world points."

What Is Considered Reality Exact aspects (conjunction, opposition, square) between natal, progressed, and transiting planets create real configurations that manifest in a person's events and states.

What Is an Event Within the Method An event is the activation of a "world point" (a planetary half-sum) through an exact transit or direction. Every event has a precise geometric marker in the movement of planets.

Role of the Subject Bearer of natal planetary configurations interacting with the cosmic stream. In the medical branch — a patient whose health correlates with planetary configurations.

Purpose of the Method To diagnose the natal profile, to forecast events with precise chronology, to verify astrology through statistics, and to apply astrological analysis in medical diagnosis.

II. How the Method Works

Origin Authorial (Reinhold Ebertin, Germany, 1930s–1940s); development of the Hamburg School (Alfred Witte); key work — "The Combination of Stellar Influences" (COSI, 1940); developed by followers in medical astrology.

What It Is Used For Diagnosis of natal profile, interpretation of midpoint configurations, forecast of events with precise chronology through directions and transits.

Data Source Date, exact time, and place of birth — for the natal chart and calculation of midpoints (planetary half-sums).

Interpretation Principle Cyclical (dominant): precise degree-by-degree movement of transits and directions. Structural: the midpoint grid as an analytical matrix. Symbolic: archetypal meanings of planets — in limited scope.

Temporal Scope Natal moment + exact dates of activations + transit cycles + life trajectory through directions.

Predetermination Moderate toward structural. Midpoint activations indicate possibilities; rigid determinism is absent.

Scale of Applicability Individual; medical branch — research into correlations between illnesses and planetary configurations.

Limitations High technical complexity (midpoints, 90-degree dial). Sensitivity to exact birth time. Difficulty in verifying causal relationships.

Ethical Risks Application in medical diagnosis without professional qualifications. Illusion of "scientific precision" without rigorous academic verification.

Degree of Verifiability Moderate within the tradition — Ebertin conducted statistical studies. Low in strict science; above average for astrological schools.

III. Place Among Other Methods

Methods with Similar Data Source All astrological systems: Western Astrology, Jyotish, Harmonic Astrology — use date/time/place of birth. The mathematical approach to chart transformation particularly unites the method with Cosmobiology through interest in formalized structural methods.

Methods with Similar Operating Principle Cyclical movement of transits — as in Western Astrology. Formalized matrix structure — as in Harmonic Astrology.

Key Difference from Similar Methods The claim to "scientificity" and abandonment of traditional houses and signs is a fundamental distinction. Midpoint analytics is a formalized method that distinguishes Cosmobiology from symbolically interpretive traditions.

Relationship to Predetermination Above average for astrological systems — precise chronological anchoring of events creates a more rigid structure than psychological astrology.

Parallel Application Possible With Western Astrology — the midpoint technique is applied within traditional natal analysis. With Harmonic Astrology — shared interest in mathematically precise chart structures.
