Composite Chart
Composite Chart · Composite (Latin)
RU: Композит
Composite Chart (Latin componere — "to put together") is a chart of the relationship as a separate living entity, constructed through midpoints between same-named planets and angles of two natal charts.
Difference from Synastry (T089)
Synastry — overlay of two charts, analyzing aspects from A's planets to B's. It's about the interaction of two people.
Composite — one new chart of the couple. It's about the union itself as a third being with its own character.
History of the Method
A modern, Western method without ancient analogues:
- Robert Hand — the principal classic. His book «Planets in Composite» (1975) introduced midpoint composite as the standard.
- Ronald Davison — developed in parallel the Davison Relationship Chart: a chart cast for the time-and-place midpoint between two births.
Schools That Use Composite
- Psychological astrology — Liz Greene, Stephen Arroyo, Howard Sasportas
- Hamburg School / Uranian astrology — Alfred Witte, midpoints as the method's core
- Cosmobiology (Reinhold Ebertin) — built on the same midpoint foundation
- Evolutionary astrology — Jeff Green, Maureen Demot: composite for the soul tasks of the union
- Modern Western mainstream astrology — almost any school after the 1980s
What Does NOT Use Composite
- Jyotish — its own pairing technique Kuta method (T089)
- Chinese astrology — Bazi and Zi Wei compare pillars
- Human Design — has its own Composite BodyGraphs, but a different logic
- Numerology — paired analysis through number comparison
What It Reveals in a Couple
- Character of the union as a "third being"
- Calling / purpose of the relationship
- Crises and trials of the couple specifically, not each individual
- Themes that emerge "between" the partners
- Long-term scenario of the relationship
What's Needed for Calculation
Date + time + place of birth for both partners. Without precise time the composite cannot be built — midpoints of the Moon and chart angles carry huge error.
When to Apply
- Deep paired analysis after Synastry
- Understanding the long-term trajectory of the union
- Crises and turning points of the couple
- When the couple is perceived as a standalone unit — marriage, business partnership, creative tandem
In Errarium. Composite is one of 6 methods of paired analysis in
/space/relationships. Used on the F1 (Diagnosis) × C-astrological content axis at the deep complexity level.
Translation note
Retain as 'Composite Chart' or 'composite'. Distinguish from synastry — composite is a single new chart, synastry is overlay of two charts.
